"A good father is one of the most unsung, unpraised, unnoticed, and yet one of the most valuable assets in our society." Billy Graham
This quote resonates with me. I never really understood my father growing up. We had good times and bad. But I did learn some very valuable things from my father. I eventually learned to understand all of his quirks.
He was an incredibly hard worker. He always put in the time at work to make sure we had everything we needed. He took us on summer vacations every summer, where he did almost all of the driving while my mother navigated. I didn't appreciate this until much later in life when I learned to hate driving long distances, and how expensive it is to travel. You take this all for granted when you’re a kid.
Fishing is one of the things I can remember doing with him. Either it was going to be a great day out, or a tragic one. You never knew which one it was going to be until about five minutes in.
As an adult now I enjoy these sporadic trips out. We don't get to go out often, but we always have a great time when we do. This is something that one day I hope to pass down to my son.
I love you dad. I hope you have a great Father's Day. I look forward to more of our adventures.
